Walker Art Center January / February Film / Video Programming

Including Expanding the Frame: Cinema on Stage, Visiting Filmmaker Jay Rosenblatt, and Two Premieres by Director Apichatpong Weerasethakul

The Walker’s Film/Fideo programming in January and February features Expanding the Frame: Cinema on Stage, a three-part series that challenges conventional cinema with unusual approaches to the art form including Berlin’s Bonanza–A Documentary for Five Screens (Thursday-Saturday, January 20-22); Sam Green and Dave Cerf’s Utopia in Four Movements (Saturday, February 12); and Brent Green’s Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then (Saturday, February 26). Expanding the Frame not only highlights changes in ways that artists are working with film, but also shows how the medium itself is being reframed in the 21st century. The works presented bring together artists who are going beyond the cinema’s rectangular projection of light to incorporate live performance into their film-based work.

Also in February, the Walker presents the rare opportunity to see premieres of exhilarating and stunning new work from award-winning filmmakers Jay Rosenblatt and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Filmmakers in Conversation: Jay Rosenblatt in Retrospect, features an evening with the San Francisco-based director presenting his newest film, The D Train, along with several of his recent shorts (Friday, February 4) and a program of his early works (Thursday, February 3).
