Choreographer Sarah Michelson and playwright/director Richard Maxwell are both known for strangely transfixing, fiercely uncompromising productions. While Michelson is acclaimed for visually striking, expansive spectacles such as Daylight (For Minneapolis)–a Walker premiere in 2005–the aesthetic and language in Maxwell’s plays range from profound to deceptively simple. Their seemingly divergent visions come together in Devotion; Michelson took inspiration from a story by Maxwell, and created a new dance work to be performed by members of the New York City Players and her own dance corps.
The Walker-commissioned Devotion will be performed Thursday-Saturday, February 17-19, at 8 pm in the William and Nadine McGuire Theater.
