The Arab American National Museum presents an exhibition of Motawi Tileworks on view through June 12, 2011.
Since 1992, the passionate artisans of Motawi Tileworks have handcrafted art tile in their Ann Arbor, Michigan studio. These distinctive pieces are known for their rich glazes and uniquely American designs, inspired by nature, art and architecture. Founded by Egyptian American Nawal Motawi, the Tileworks has created a signature style influenced by Arts & Crafts-era artists, designers and architects.
This new exhibition showcases Motawi tile as both art and architectural dŽcor, sheds light on the tile making process, and draws connections between contemporary work and the Arab World tradition of tile making. On display in the Lower Level Gallery; free with Museum admission.
