Worcestershire County Museum (WCM) Announces Half-term Program

Half-term at The County Museum at Hartlebury Castle promises to be just fantastic with a series of creative events celebrating festivals around the world.

South American carnivals, Chinese New Year and the Hindu/ Sikh festival of Holi are just some of the spectaculars explored during ‘Fantastic Festivals’, a four-day schedule of artistic events aimed at children.

Between Tuesday, February 22 and Friday, February 25 (inclusive), youngsters will be able to get stuck in to a whole array of colourful activities marking the celebratory events, all of which take place in February.

These include fashioning vibrant carnival headdresses, painting celebration masks and creating ornamental lamps as well as crafting Chinese stick figures and origami shapes.

In addition, children will also be able to follow an exciting ‘mystery trail’ around the museum.

Running concurrently with ‘Fantastic Festivals’, the Castle’s magnificent State Rooms will also be opening their doors to visitors.

Bridging what used to be the Bishop’s private living quarters and the servant’s wing, which is now the home of the County Museum, the State Rooms are fit for a King.

They have enjoyed a rich history, playing host to visitors including Queen Elizabeth I, King George III and Queen Elizabeth II.

Worcestershire County Council Visitor Services Officer Rachel Robinson said: “It’s going to be four fun-packed days at the museum with exciting things to make and do and a chance to learn about celebrations in other countries around the world.”

Three activities will take place per day and as usual, The Castle Kitchen Café will be serving light lunches, delicious cakes and hot and cold drinks throughout the day.

The admission charge is adults £4.50, children/concessions £2.25 or a family ticket for £12. For a day’s activities there is an additional charge of £1 per child. Or, a Family Pass valid for 12 months is available for £30 which includes all the activities.

Admission to the State Rooms will be included in the price of a normal museum ticket from 22-25 February.
