Upcoming Events at Moderna Museet

Moderna Museet is stepping up its programme of events in 2011 with a series of seminars on Swedish postmodern art during the 1980’s. The curator Hans Ulrich Obrist will hold a lecture in February, which will be followed in March by a performance with Jutta Koether and Kim Gordon.

Moderna Museet is an open museum and a lively forum for discussions, talks and artist presentations that cannot be comprised by the usual exhibition format. Daniel Birnbaum, director, and Ann-Sofi Noring, co-director, are intent on enhancing this side of the museum’s activities and Moderna Museet’s role as an arena for encounters between different disciplines.

At Moderna Museet visitors will meet not only art but also the artists themselves. Wolfgang Tillmans, Annika von Hausswolff and James Turrell are a few of the artists who will be visiting the museum in the next few months to talk about their art. In connection with the exhibition of Eva Löfdahl, Moderna Museet is organising a series of seminars, “Postmodern”, which will include several events relating to the 1980s in Sweden, featuring key artists, critics, choreographers and musicians. Later this spring, Moderna Museet is showing the artist Jutta Koether, who will also do a performance together with Sonic Youth member Kim Gordon and the American poet Tony Conrad. Several other seminal figures on the international art scene, including the art historian Hal Foster, the critic Isabelle Graw and the curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, will also be lecturing at Moderna Museet.
