Museum of Scottish Lighthouses Presents Focus Environment Photographs

Fraserburgh Winners Displayed at Lighthouse

Focus Environment, Chevron’s photography competition exhibition, is currently on display at The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses until 6th April. The exhibition includes winners from Fraserburgh.

Focus Environment is an environmental photographic competition for secondary school pupils throughout Scotland. The competition encourages young people between the ages of 11-18 years old to demonstrate their awareness of the natural world around them.

Of the entries displayed, Fraserburgh Academy pupils won the day. Jake Watson won the ‘Wildlife & Habits’ section with stunning image called “Leaping into Spring”. Neil Mair gained Second place in both the ‘Nature’s Moods’ and ‘My Environment’ categories for “Storm Brewing” and “Knitted Corner”. Other pupils Lucy Slater and Alan Henderson achieved the two Commended awards in the ‘My Environment’ category.

Neil Mair’s “Knitted Corner” gaining Second Place in the My Environment category is actually of the Kinnaird Kaleidoscope Knitting project at The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses. This project decorated the net drying poles at Kinnaird Head with knitted lighthouses. The knitted display lasted for over a year and has been immortalised in Neil’s image.

“It is great to welcome Focus Environment back to The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses” said Director Virginia Mayes-Wright. “Having winners from Fraserburgh Academy displayed in the exhibition really shows the talent of the young people in the community.”

Focus Environment is on at The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses until 1st April. For further information about the exhibition please contact the Museum on 01346 511022 or email [email protected]
