The title of the exhibition is inspired by Matthew Buckingham’s work “Image of Absalon to be projected until it vanishes”: a slide continuously ‘faded-out’ by the heat emanating from the lamp of the projector, the protracted elision of a monument.
The rest of the exhibition is dedicated to the artist Ioana Nemeş, who passed away in April 2011—to her talent, imperative energy and ardent convictions. Ioana’s project—co-authored with Dragoş Olea under the alias Kilobase Bucharest—was planned as an alphabet of the topographic, political and affective idiosyncrasies of the Romanian capital. Its first volume stops at the letter H, for ‘Hyperreality’; but this would certainly not be Ioana Nemeş’s last word (as neither would grief or perplexity). The measurements, poetic and obstinate, that form a large part of her practice encroach upon the reality of their object, to ‘scratch more sense’ into it.
Artists in the show: Robert Bosisio, Pavel Büchler, Kilobase Bucharest, Mircea Cantor, Hilario Isola and Matteo Norzi, Alexej Meschtschanow, Ciprian Muresan, Vlad Nancă, Navid Nuur, Miklos Onucsan, Serge Spitzer, Goran Trbuljak, Gabriela Vanga, Mona Vatamanu and Florin Tudor.
