In anticipation of the upcoming Refinery Factory Party, the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is launching the Superstars Wanted contest. Fans of the AGA’s Facebook page that are 18 years or older can enter to become the AGA’s Refinery Superstar for the night by submitting a photo of them based on Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests. The entry with the most votes (‘likes’) will receive four tickets and a limo ride to the party, where he or she will be recognized as the Refinery Superstar. Taking place on Saturday, June 4 from 9 pm-2 am, the AGA’s Refinery Factory Party is a late night art event inspired by the upcoming exhibition ANDY WARHOL: Manufactured. Tickets for the party are available online at youraga.ca to the general public for $25 beginning on May 16, 2011. They have been available since May 2 to AGA Members for $20 and Ultra Members for $10. Tickets are already 70% sold.
The party will entertain guests with a variety of artist projects including a Time Capsule Project with Sarah Patterson, a ”Silkscreen Factory” with local artist-run centre SNAP, Super 8 video portraits by Zachary Ayotte, and an inventory of Refinery guests following the formula of Warhol’s Screen Tests. DJs Blue Jay and Travy D will spin sounds of the 60s and more, while snacks by Zinc Catering, along with cash bars will be available throughout the Gallery.
Each party in the AGA’s Refinery series is themed around a different AGA exhibition and includes a new mix of Alberta-based talent. The past two events have hosted sell-out crowds of 800.This is the second Refinery party of 2011.
