Tate Liverpool will present a René Magritte Summer School, against the backdrop of it’s exhibition René Magritte: The Pleasure Principle.
Summer School explores the artistic practice of both Magritte and the Surrealists, focussing on popular culture, pattern, display and artifice, and the movement’s wide-ranging influences on artists practising today.
Led by artists and comprising two complimentary courses that can be taken together or independently:
Surrealist Worlds introduces Surrealist thinking and its influence on current artistic practice
Double Take explores the ‘making strange’ of everyday realities.
Both courses are introductory and participative, taught with a mix of discussion and practical art-making activities. You will be guided through your own artistic responses and experimentation with talks, one to one tutoring, group discussion and practical art-making. Artistic techniques to be explored include collage, print making, paper cuts and digital technologies.
No previous experience is necessary.
Book by telephone or in person at Tate Liverpool only.
