he Contemporaries, an affiliate group of the Columbia Museum of Art dedicated to engaging young professionals in the arts and cultivating and leading the next generation of Museum supporters, announces the addition of five new members to its board for the 2011-2013 term.
The new Contemporaries board members are:
• Steven Genco, Account Executive, Cyberwoven
• Alexis Lindsay, Associate, Sowell Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC
• Jodi Jenkins, Owner and Principal Designer, Jodi Jenkins Interiors
• Natalie Shaffer, homemaker
• Michael Wright, South Carolina Judicial Department, Law Clerk to The Honorable H. Bruce Williams, South Carolina Court of Appeals
“With the energy and talent of our board and membership we are excited about the opportunities this year for our continued growth and engagement with the Museum,” Joan Boyer, Contemporaries president, said.
“The Contemporaries are energetic and valuable museum members, and we look forward to adding these dynamic young professionals to the board,” Karen Brosius, Museum executive director, said. “Due to the Contemporaries’ strong fundraising and art acquisitions efforts, our museum is home to a substantial Dale Chihuly chandelier. “We look forward to seeing this group’s continued growth,” Brosius said.
The Contemporaries host many cultural and social events for members throughout the year. The fall 2011 calendar includes the 2011 Black and White Ball launch party on Thursday, September 1, on Boyd Plaza; Oktoberfest on Wednesday, September 28, on Boyd Plaza; and the signature black-tie event, the 6th annual Black and White Ball: The British Are Coming! on Friday, October 28. All of these events are open to the public.
