The Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP) / lille3000 presents COLLECTOR an exhibition of Artworks from the Centre national des arts plastiques Tripostal, Lille (France), on view 5 October 2011–1 January 2012.
The Centre national des arts plastiques (CNAP) and lille3000 are teaming up for the first time to present the exhibition COLLECTOR, which takes up residence for three months at the Tripostal in Lille. COLLECTOR is drawn from the collections of the CNAP, a key player in the French cultural scheme promoting and supporting contemporary artistic creation in all fields related to the visual arts: painting, sculpture, photography, installations, video, multimedia, graphic art, design.
EXHIBITION
This striking presentation of artistic creation from over the past 40 years brings together a broad selection of works by artists of the French and international scene. COLLECTOR is conceived as a voyage through the history of modern and contemporary art while covering a whole range of themes, from the place of the artist to the status of the object and images in society. The works are displayed in an open and de-categorised reading of the CNAP collections, combining art, photography and design. For two centuries, the French state has historically been the biggest art collector gradually constituting our common heritage. In this respect, one of the key tasks of the CNAP is to augment and promote this public collection. COLLECTOR therefore refers to both this collection and the event itself, in its novel and exceptional character.
EXCLUSIVE NEW PUBLIC COMMISSIONED WORKS
CNAP shows public commissioned works, promoting temporary pieces devised according to a specific artistic context. This aims to support artists with experimentation, active participation to artistic life and dialogue between artists and institutions, generating brand new projects. 3 commissioned artworks are presented at the Tripostal: Code de nuit by Cécile Paris, Tapis Rouge 3 by Matthieu Laurette, and the computing project by Pierre Giner, CNAPn [n milliards de collections].
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Palais des Beaux-Arts teams up with CNAP to organise 4 CABARET COLLECTOR nights, between concert and performance, with dj set, video concert, small theatre form and poetry. At the LaM in Villeneuve d’Ascq, conferences are presented by the arts critics Vincent Romagny, Mathilde Villeneuve, Florence Ostende, Vanessa Desclaux, Stéphanie Katz.
