Biggs Museum Launch The New Biggs Capital Campaign

The Biggs Museum of American Art has launched the public phase of “The New Biggs” capital campaign, the final push for a $1.86 million fundraising initiative begun in 2010 to expand the museum and renovate the building at 406 Federal Street.

With funding, the Museum plans to continue renovation during the first half of 2012. The first floor’s improvements and upgrades will continue through to the second and third floors. The galleries will be repainted, receive new flooring, LED track lighting and be given a new interpretive plan for the collections on view. The final stage of the Museum renovation is scheduled for the summer of 2013 with a reworking of the glass entrance facade to create a three-story sculpture atrium.

“The New Biggs” campaign is a bold step to raise the quality and breadth of art education and appreciation, bringing the Biggs Museum to new levels. This campaign enhances outdated facilities to create gallery environments that allow unprecedented access to the collections while better serving the community’s educational and gathering needs.

As of November 1, 2011, the Biggs Museum has raised $1.28 million in cash and pledges through the “quiet phase” of the campaign, more than half its goal.

The Biggs Museum seeks to serve a diverse public as a regional museum of fine and decorative arts, made from 1700 to present, representing the State of Delaware and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic region. The Biggs Museum engages audiences through a compelling program of temporary exhibitions and programming. The Biggs Museum encourages the development of creativity and an appreciation for art by offering a comprehensive slate of educational programming for all ages.
