Your Paintings now has almost 104,000 paintings on the site, there are about another 100,000 to go before you can see every oil painting in public ownership in the UK.
Dr James Beattie (1735–1803) (Joshua Reynolds, Collection: The University of Aberdeen)
“We’ve added paintings in public ownership from across the country, including Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, many of which are online for the first time.”
Your Paintings is a joint initiative between the BBC, the Public Catalogue Foundation (a registered charity) and participating collections and museums from across the UK.
Paintings owned by the state and local authorities together with those held in charitable trusts for the benefit of the public make up the national collection shown on the Your Paintings website. In addition, a small number of important collections that are not in public ownership nor normally open to the public are also being included. – www.bbc.co.uk/arts/yourpaintings/
