The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts
Late artist and craftsman Ken Olsen (1921-2010). Designed in a traditional American Folk Art style, his fascinating pieces come to life for viewers of all ages.
Long-time Madison resident Olsen referred to his works as whimsies and wanted them to entertain. Rooted in the 18th century American folk tradition of whirligigs, signs, toys, and patriotic figures, his creations celebrate nature, the founding fathers, modern themes, story telling, and his own family.
Inspired by his 18th century house, and the Americana his wife Bette filled it with, Olsen created amusing and loving pieces deeply rooted in the American folk art tradition.
