The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum will open its new Renzo Piano-designed wing, on January 19, 2012, with exhibitions by several contemporary artists with roots in the museum’s acclaimed Artist-in-Residence program, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year.
A range of exhibitions includes the first solo show in an American museum by Scottish painter and sculptor Victoria Morton; photographs of the historic building and collection by Luisa Lambri; a site-specific outdoor installation by Stefano Arienti; and two artist projects that will enhance visitors’ understanding and experience of the Museum.
