Aargauer Kunsthaus opens Roman Signer Street pictures and super-8 films

Aargauer Kunsthaus presents Roman Signer Street pictures and super-8 films on view 28.1. – 22.4.2012.

The first part of the exhibition shows the photo series street images that Roman Signer has made ​​extensive travels through the Carpathian Mountains, Ukraine and Romania. The Aargau Art Museum has acquired this important work 2011th 24 photographs show lovingly decorated by the roadside memorials that were erected for traffic accident victims. Another 24 images show small stalls where all kinds of foods are offered. Between the two subjects, a visual dialogue about life and death occurs at the roadside. In the second part of the exhibition are 36 super-8 films from the period of 1975 presented in large format up to 1989. The monumental scale production surprises with an unusual perspective on the work of Roman Signer. The film screenings are to statements on his own behalf and contrast in form and content with the series of street images.

Founded in 1959, the Aargau Kunsthaus (Art Museum) has one of the finest and most comprehensive public collections of Swiss art from the 18th century to the present. The Kunsthaus has several temporary exhibitions each year, primarily devoted to contemporary art in Switzerland and abroad. The building was extended in 2003 by the Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.
