Foundry Art Centre February 2012 Events

The Foundry Art Centre is a fine arts gallery overlooking the Missouri River at 520 North Main Center, in the Frenchtown district of Historic St. Charles.


Foundry Art Center – Grand Hall.

The Foundry features a Smithsonian-caliber art gallery hosting national juried exhibitions plus 20 working artist studios where visitors can watch the creative process and buy art directly from the artists.

Hours are Tuesday through Thursday 10 am to 8 pm, Friday and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunday noon to 4 pm. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. For more information, call (636) 255-0270 or visit www.foundryartcentre.org

The Foundry Art Centre celebrates the skill and patience of artists who, in an age of seductive high-speed solutions, still prefer to work up a sweat and get their hands dirty.

The show’s juror is Tom Huck, well-known St. Louis print-maker and owner of Evil Prints.

Explore the Arts at the Foundry Art Centre. If you’ve ever wanted to find your niche or dabble in something new and unfamiliar, this is your opportunity. All classes are taught by artists who work in each discipline.

Join the Foundry Art Centre and indulge yourself in lively discussions on literature! Discussions will be held the first Tuesday of every month featuring a new book.
February’s Selection – Freedom: A Novel by former St. Louisan Jonathan Franzen
“Poetry Out Loud” National Recitation Regional Competition Wednesday, February 15 – 10:00 am until 1:00 pm
The “Poetry Out Loud” 2012 Regional Competition for St. Charles begins in the classroom as students select poems to recite from the “Poetry Out Loud” anthology of more than 650 classic and contemporary poems.

This high school program follows a pyramid structure – after a classroom contest, champions will advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional and/or state competition, and ultimately to the National Finals.

The St. Charles Regional Competition for the “Poetry Out Loud” National Recitation Contest takes place on Wednesday, February 15, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm (weather permitting) and is free and open to the public.

(NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, the make-up date for this event is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012.)

St. Charles Symphony

Founded in 1997, the St. Charles County Symphony Society is a multi-faceted ensemble, performing classical and modern repertoire, chamber concerts and a summer “POPS” series.

The St. Charles Symphony Society enjoys serving the St. Charles area through its free musical concerts. The Orchestra performs in a variety of community locations including area universities and schools, churches, plazas, and parks. The Orchestra also performs in a variety of musical styles: from traditional symphonies to seasonal pops concerts.

Singer-songwriter, guitarist, storyteller: Singing in both English and Spanish, Javier Mendoza performs in a pop-rock style with a powerful voice and lyrics. Always turning heads, always full of energy, always the entertainer, Mendoza’s charismatic personality is reflected in his zesty, Latin-tinged performances.
