The Louisiana State Museum – Patterson presents Tarzan Lord of the Louisiana Jungle, an exhibition on view April 12, 2011 – April 2013.
Tarzan first appeared in print 100 years ago in 1912. Just five years later, a small band of filmmakers camped in the swamps around Morgan City to bring Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novel Tarzan of the Apes to the screen.
Released in 1918, Tarzan of the Apes was one of the most successful movies of early silent era, earning more than $1 million at the box office. It also marked the birth of Louisiana’s now thriving film industry and spawned a long line of Louisiana swamp-themed films and TV shows.
Now the Louisiana State Museum in Patterson is presenting, Tarzan: Lord of the Louisiana Jungle, a delightful retrospective of 100 years of Tarzan memorabilia guest-curated by Louisiana filmmaker Al Bohl.
Bohl and his daughter, Allison Bohl, have produced a feature-length documentary on the making of the first Tarzan movie which will have a world premiere in Morgan City on April 13 paired restored version of the 1918 silent film. See the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G_XINKa2EI
