Pacific Battleship Center displays USS IOWA

The Pacific Battleship Center in San Pedro is to display the USS IOWA in an interactive naval museum experience that honors and illustrates the positive contributions of this battleship and its crew at critical moments in American history. A grand opening for the public set for July 7.

USS Iowa (BB-61) fires her 16-inch/50-caliber guns on 15 August 1984 during a firepower demonstration after her modernization.

USS Iowa (BB-61) was the lead ship of her class of battleship and the fourth in the United States Navy to be named in honor of the 29th state. Owing to the cancellation of the Montana-class battleships, Iowa is the last lead ship of any class of United States battleships, and was the only ship of her class to have served in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II.

Currently, USS IOWA is located at Port of Richmond Terminal 3 in Richmond, CA undergoing refurbishment work. USS IOWA leaves Richmond for Southern california on May 29.
