Less than Four More Weeks to see ‘Offering of the Angels’ at the James A. Michener Art Museum

DOYLESTOWN, PA—There is still time to see Offering of the Angels: Treasures from the Uffizi Gallery at the James A. Michener Art Museum. The Michener is the only Northeast venue for this selection of 45 paintings and tapestries from the famed Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. The exhibition is on view through August 12, 2012.

Offering of the Angels: Treasures from the Uffizi features works by such Renaissance and Baroque masters as Botticelli, Titian, Tintoretto, Lorenzo Monaco, Parmigianino, Guercino, and Christofano and Alessandro Allori. The exhibition is organized by Contemporanea Progetti, Florence, and sponsored by Maureen and Gregory Church, Carol and Louis Della Penna and Paula and Kevin Putman. The media partner for this exhibit is CBS3/The CW-Philly.

“Our audience has responded with such enthusiasm to this exhibition, and some have returned up to three times,” says Michener Art Museum Director-CEO Lisa Tremper Hanover. “The Uffizi can sometimes be overwhelming, but the setting here at the Michener is so intimate. You can stay and study the paintings.”

The works from the Uffizi, which until this tour have never left Europe, embody the diversity, stylistic evolution, scale and technical mastery of art from Italy and Northern Europe over nearly 400 years, and represent a survey of European art at an important moment in its history.

“The Michener’s already strong reputation has been heightened by bringing these treasures from the Uffizi here,” adds Hanover. Consulting curators for the show were Diane Cole Ahl, Ph.D., and Prof. Marcia Hall, Ph. D.

The Michener Art Museum is providing an audio tour to visitors. A full-color exhibition book is also available for purchase.
