Yale University Art Gallery announces Once Removed exhibition

Yale University Art Gallery presents Once Removed, an exhibition on view from December 12, 2012.

Once Removed features contemporary artists, such as Carol Bove, Ree Morton, Nam June Paik, and Allen Ruppersberg, who have taken divergent approaches to undermining sculpture’s traditional autonomy. Some incorporate readymade objects and references beyond the gallery. Others use film and video to double the sculptural effect. Many have cast off the “neutral” pedestal as a mode of presentation and have built their work’s setting into the sculpture itself. Once Removed includes artworks from the 1970s to the present that assert their own expanded frame, encouraging viewers to question the status of three-dimensional art today.
