Mpls Photo Center presents The Human Condition. A Survey of Humanity an International Call for Entry is in conjunction and to be exhibited with Mark Seliger’s “When They Came to Take My Father” Opening November 10th, 2012 .Mark Seliger’s, “When They Came to Take My Father is in collaboration with Tolernce Minnesota, which seeks to create a more tolerant society. This exhibit is supported by The Blythe Brenden Fund of the Ted and Dr. Roberta Mann Foundation, and presented by Holocaust Museum Houston. Tolerance Minnesota is a program of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas.

“The Human Condition” is a phrase typically used with respect the generality of situations that humans face in ‘getting along with each other and the world’, situations that are difficult to encompass in some way because of hang-ups or predispositions of one kind or another or just simple ignorance -“What did I do to wrong him?”, “Why can’t we get along with each other?”.
The “The Human Condition” is, for example, the material of poetry in general and the lyrics of most music. It’s various “secular” or even religious situations, lovers in warring and religions. The “quality of life” as in some parts of Africa and anywhere in the US. Perhaps the most obvious examples come right off any daily newspaper -the ‘irresolvability’ of the Israeli-Palestinian problem, letters to Dear Abby and their answers.
The “The Human Condition” encompasses the experiences of being human in a social, cultural, and personal context. It can be described as the irreducible part of humanity that is inherent and not connected to gender, race and class. It’s a search for purpose, sense of curiosity, the inevitability of isolation and fear of death.
Prize Awards: First Place – $400, Second Place – $300, Third Place – $200 and Three Honorable Mentions. Prizes and Awards include a free full-color Exhibition Book.
Accepted Images: All images selected by juror will be exhibited throughout the Mpls Photo Center Galleries and published in a full-color Exhibit Book for purchase.
Cost for Entry: $35 first 5 images, $10 each additional MPC Donation: Mpls Photo Center will donate $.90 of every $1.00 from this Call for Entry to the non-profit, Photography at the Center, whose mission is to teach photography to underserved and disadvantaged, youth, ages 10-18, “Bringing Photo Equality to All”.
