The Erie Maritime Museum opens this season’s Speaker/Events Series with a screening of the acclaimed PBS documentary The War of 1812. The two-hour film will be shown on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hirt Auditorium at the Museum. The event is admission free, and the public is welcome to attend.
With stunning re-enactments, evocative animation, and the incisive commentary of key historians and other experts, The War of 1812 presents the conflict that forged the destiny of North America, its people and its geography. Filming for this project took place in 2009, and included two days shooting many of the Naval segments on board Niagara. The men you see in most of the naval action segments are Niagara’s own crew and the Erie Maritime Museum’s Ship’s Company 1813 Living History interpreters.
The War of 1812 is a production of WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and Florentine Films/Hott productions, Inc., in association with WETA, Washington, D.C.
