Bonniers Konsthall’s large fall exhibition More Than Sound looks at the use and composition of music within contemporary artistic practices. Occupying the entire Konsthall and extending outdoors, More Than Sound also comprises an extensive series of lectures, events and concerts, from a commissioned piece by Carl Michael von Hausswolff to a workshop by Tarek Atoui. Here, Bonniers Konsthall aims not only to investigate music but also to be a place where music is created.
The exhibition presents art that alludes to a range of compositional methods and considers the varying manners in which artists have created or used music within their work. What is on view or performed is therefore not orchestrated to coalesce. Rather, the exhibition aims to focus on disharmonies through which divergent compositions can be better understood, arguing that whatever it may sound like, music is by some enigmatic faculty in the end always music, making it something undeniably bewildering all whilst being a concrete, physical practice.

A Celebration of Sound – John Cage, 100 years
September 5th
Bonniers Konsthall together with Drottningholm Palace Theatre arranged an evening of concerts in honor of Cage’s work and influence. With performances by Malin Bång, Hans Ek and Modern Fantazias and Scanner among others.

The Blow by Jenny Wilson

Specially for More Than Sound pop musician Jenny Wilson has choreographed, and created a soundtrack to, a performance for a professional boxer.
Artist talk with Matti Kallioinen and concert with The Great Learning Orchestra

Artist talk with Matti Kallioinen and curator Theodor Ringborg, followed by a concert by The Great Learning Orchestra, a diverse ensemble of more than 100 amateur and professional musicians, playing amongst other Christian Marclay’s Graffiti Composition.

December Splinters II by Malin Bång

Composer Malin Bång presents December Splinters II, commissioned for More Than Sound, where Bång utilizes traditional instruments, objects and interact with the installations within the exhibition.
Bonniers Konsthall Remixed.
DJ Hans Berg, known for his collaborations with Nathalie Djurberg, has created a soundtrack for More Than Sound titled Hit, stroke, turn. Throughout this fall, until November 5th, the public is invited to remix the original track.
