The Calder Foundation announce the launch of its new website, www.calder.org, in celebration of its 25th anniversary in 2012. The website opens with a series of videos of mobiles in motion and seeks to create a more visceral, firsthand experience of Calder’s work.
In addition to the extensive images, cataloguing, and historical references and texts that have always been integral to the website’s offerings, the Calder Foundation is proud to present the following resources:
Blog: a visual presentation of Calder Foundation news, projects, exhibitions, events, and press
Graphic Works: cataloguing for a selection of the artist’s editions, which will continue to grow
Historic Films: a selection of rarely seen historic Calder films
Misattributed Works: information about works that are frequently misattributed to Calder and that violate the artist’s intellectual property
Photobiography: a timeline of the artist’s life in pictures
The Calder Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 by Alexander S. C. Rower and the Calder family, is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, preserving, and interpreting the art and archives of Alexander Calder and is charged with an unmatched collection of his works. The Foundation’s projects include collaborating on exhibitions and publications, organizing and maintaining the Calder archives, examining works attributed to Calder, and cataloguing the artist’s works. Over the past several years, the Calder Foundation has expanded its programming to include its own exhibitions, lectures, performances, and events on Calder as well as contemporary artists, including those whose work the Foundation supports through its biannual Calder Prize and the Atelier Calder residency program in Saché, France.
