CAPC musee d’art contemporain de Bordeaux is 40

For forty years, the CAPC has been firmly rooted in the present. This is a direction which the physical power of the Entrepôt—the 19th-century warehouse housing the CAPC—has inspired and splendidly represented for four decades, broadcasting an exemplary pioneering and international program. Forged by contemporary cultures, the CAPC is a place for one and all, in which an apprenticeship in the challenges posed by culture proceeds by way of a discovery of the art of our time.

In 2013, past, present and emergence thus rub shoulders in an annual schedule based on variable geometry, with each project having its personal dimension and timeframe. A time capsule. Step 1 features a reinvention of Allan Kaprow’s Yard (1961): 40 tons of tires burying the museum cult central space, a lecture by acclaimed writer Tristan Garcia introducing the yearlong program of conferences Think… And See conceived by philosopher Francois Cusset, a symposium that deals with the themes of intensity, 21st-century memory, the brain and plasticity, gender and sex, the infinity of debt, and vulnerability notably in the post-internet era, a concert of Bordeaux poppyelectro band HelloByeBye and the opening of monographic exhibitions Raphael Hefti, Nature More, and Philip Newcombe, Pollen, as well as the group show La Sentinelle. Step 1 will also feature on March 21 a lecture by historian and philosopher Enzo Traverso followed by Lili Reynaud-Dewar‘s performance Diaghyrubber. Don’t miss it!
