CBMM hosts Blessing of the Fleet April 17

The public is invited to launch this year’s boating season along with Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) members, volunteers, and boatyard staff to welcome back the boating season with an official ceremony to bless and honor CBMM’s floating fleet of historic Bay boats, as well as local work boats.

Blessing of the Fleet

On-land participants will meet at 4:30pm on Wednesday, April 17 under the 1879 Hooper Strait Lighthouse, which overlooks the Miles River at CBMM. Boaters are invited to pull up near the lighthouse, with docking for the ceremony based on limited availability.

A United States Navy Band bugler and vocalist will be leading the ceremony. The blessing will be performed by the Reverend Kevin M. Cross of The Church of the Holy Trinity in Oxford, MD.
