Smithsonian Publishes Museum Guide for Kids

The Smithsonian Institution is the largest museum and research complex in the world, and it includes collections that delight young children. Awesome Adventures at the Smithsonian: The Official Kids Guide to the Smithsonian Institution is a new guidebook designed to give families with children between the ages of 8 and 12 all the information they need to plan a trip to the three most-visited museums in the nation’s capital: the National Air and Space Museum, National Museum of Natural History and National Museum of American History.

The guide helps children and their families find the kid-friendly exhibits at each of these three museums. Readers can learn how to navigate through the National Museum of American History to see Kermit the Frog or Dorothy’s ruby red slippers. If they are interested in discovering the wonders of nature, the book will direct them through the Hall of Mammals at the National Museum of Natural History. Or they can imagine what early flight was like by visiting the Wright brothers’ plane at the National Air and Space Museum.

In addition to being a complete guide of the museums, Awesome Adventures at the Smithsonian is an interactive workbook. Kids can complete activities such as checklists, puzzles, games and mad libs to guide their learning. They are also invited to write journal entries and draw pictures, so the book can become a personalized souvenir of their visit. The book includes QR codes that allow kids to access more information online for continued exploration.
