Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art announces Alberto Carneiro exhibition

Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art presents an exhibition of work by Alberto Carneiro on view 19-04-2013 – 24-06-2013.

Alberto Carneiro (São Mamede do Coronado, 1937) is one of the artists who opened up new paths of artistic enquiry in Portugal in the 1960s and 70s. As a pioneer of conceptual art in our country, he has developed a unique oeuvre ? in which art and nature are intertwined. His work blends seamlessly with his own life, including reminiscences of the place where he was born and raised, and where he first discovered his talent as an artist and creator.

This exhibition, consisting of new works created specifically for Serralves’ exhibition spaces, between 1998?2000 and 2013, develops a fluid and continuous trajectory, with the aid of glass and mirrors, that involves the spectator. Words assume a central place within Alberto Carneiro’s oeuvre, and the works on display are created from roots and trunks of orange trees, olive trees, bamboos and vines.
