National Portrait Gallery and American National Biography Online Announce Partnership

The National Portrait Gallery announced a partnership with American National Biography to add portraits from the museum’s collection to ANB articles. An initial selection of images was included in an update April 25, with more to be added in each subsequent update. This partnership will provide images from the Portrait Gallery’s collection to ANB subscribers, offering images that are often the defining likeness of a person.

The April update will include the biographies of 41 men and women who recently died and had a significant impact on American society and culture during their lifetime. Individuals included in the update are Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara; feminist Andrea Dworkin; politician, poet, and congressman Eugene McCarthy; novelist David Foster Wallace; film director Elia Kazan; and chess grand master Bobby Fischer.
