Contemporary Arts Center’s Opening Celebration of Spring Shows Patti Smith: The Coral Sea and The Living Room

CINCINNATI, OH – The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) – one of the nation’s oldest and most celebrated contemporary art institutions – will celebrate the opening of its newest exhibitions, Patti Smith: The Coral Sea and The Living Room, on Friday, May 17.


Patti Smith: The Coral Sea (through November, 2013)
An exhibition highlighting Smith’s role as both poet and visual artist, it is part homage to Robert Mapplethorpe, part rumination on art, death and rebirth, and features works never before exhibited in the U.S. the exhibition also features a one-night-only performance of The Coral Sea, Smith’s haunting requiem to Mapplethorpe.

The Living Room (through September 2, 2013)
An exciting project addressing the concept of place-making through a series of room vignettes, each involving the viewer in an intimate conversation with the space and the objects. The Living Room features site-specific work by local artists whose unique practices overlap with contemporary craft: Paul Coors, Guy Michael Davis, Terence Hammonds, Katie Parker, Such + Such. The exhibition’s main focal point, an elaborately tiled 7’x10′ fireplace, was created in partnership with Rookwood Pottery Co. The exhibition will also host programs during the run:
