To commemorate the 90th anniversary of this cultural hub of Northern New Mexico, the Harwood has planned a series of exhibitions, community parties, and other public programs. The museum officially kicks off the 90th anniversary, Saturday, September 21, with free admission to 90th Anniversary exhibitions “The Harwoods,” “Burt Harwood: Historic Photographs” and “Highlights from the Taos Municipal Schools Historic Art Collection.” Other family-friendly activities will make this community day a true anniversary celebration.
“I hear regularly from artists, teachers, students, and the community that the Harwood Museum of Art has had a profound impact on them and their families throughout the past 90 years,” says Susan Longhenry, Director. “Seeing the appreciation people have for what we’re doing as we plan these world-class 90th Anniversary events makes our place in the history of American art and education so poignant and special.”
The main event, the Harwood’s Roaring 20’s Party, takes place at the Rancho de Taos landmark Old Martina’s Hall, Saturday, October 19, 8 – 11 p.m. The dance hall is perfect for flappers and their dates as they swing and jump to the great sounds of Big Swing Theory. Prizes will be given to guests in best Great Gatsby 1920s fashion.
“We are thrilled to be working with Shawna Yambire of Re-Neux, who will bring the style of the Runway Vigilantes to the Roaring 20s event,” says Dora Dillistone, 90th Co-Chair. “There will be lots of dancing, a poker tournament and period fashions as well. We’ll also have great lodging deals for everyone traveling to Taos for the big party at the Taos Inn and La Posada de Taos.” www.harwoodmuseum.org
