ArtPace | San Antonio presents Localized Histories an exhibition on view September 12–December 29, 2013.
Artpace San Antonio is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition of work inspired by its founder, Linda Pace. Organized by Fairfax Dorn, Localized Histories brings together selected artworks from the Linda Pace Foundation Collection composed of found objects or rooted in assemblage.
Including artists Leonardo Drew, Tony Feher, Isa Genzken, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Thomas Hirschhorn, Christian Marclay, and Linda Pace, Localized Histories addresses the various formal and conceptual issues of space, time, process, and material. The exhibition explores the relationships between the static, found objects and their temporal nature to create something which extends beyond painting and sculpture.
Localized Histories will be on view from September 12 to December 29 in the Hudson (Show)Room at Artpace.
Support for the Hudson (Show)Room is generously provided by the Linda Pace Foundation.
Artpace is a contemporary art center located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, with residencies, exhibitions, and education programs that nurture the creative expression of emerging and established artists, while actively engaging youth and adult audiences. Since opening its doors in 1995, Artpace has welcomed more than 180 artists through its renowned International Artists-in-Residence program. Three residences each feature one Texas artist, one national artist, and one international artist who are selected by a notable guest curator. Each eight-week residency culminates in a two-month exhibition on site. The mission of this program is to provide artists with unparalleled resources that allow them to experiment with new ideas and take provocative risks. Artpace’s next trio of International Artists-in-Residence—Micol Assaël (Rome), Ivor Shearer (Houston), and Erin Shirreff (New York), selected by guest curator Paola Morsiani—will be in residence at Artpace September 17 through November 18. Their exhibitions will open on November 14.
