Maine Marine Museum announces Eye Sweet and Fair: Naval Architecture, Lofting, and Modeling

The Maine Marine Museum in Bath presents Eye Sweet and Fair: Naval Architecture, Lofting, and Modeling an exhibition on view June 14, 2014 — Sept. 28, 2014.

The most important, most mysterious and, arguably, the most beautiful portion of a ship is rarely seen, for it remains underwater.

Long before a ship is launched, the interaction of its hull with the briny deep is the most intriguing of problems to be solved, a problem that has been challenging mariners for thousands of years.

Eye Sweet & Fair will trace this challenge and its many solutions in the evolution of naval architecture, and examine a myriad of techniques and technologies that have allowed us to comprehend the complex of curves and volumes that becomes a vessel, including drafting, lofting, modeling, and the extraordinary transformational changes rendered by the advent of computer aided design processes.
