Royal Museum of Central Africa closing for renovation

The Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium is closing at the end of November 2013 for a three year renovation period.

The museum will be given a contemporary infrastructure and an entirely new and original narrative thread. The renovated museum is expected to reopen in May 2016. The scientific institute will continue to operate from Tervuren while the museum is closed.

The renovated museum building and the new welcome pavilion will be the first visible changes on the site. After this the remainder of the master plan for the whole site will be implemented and this in relation to the buildings in which the scientific departments are currently housed. The completion of this challenging total project is not expected before 2020.
