Like no other artist of his generation, the Canadian Jeff Wall (born 1946), the possibilities of pictorial design, explores the boundaries between the genres of painting, photography, sculpture and film, between fiction and reality and redefined the photographic image. Munich has developed into a center of early Jeff Wall reception, since the early 1980s was his work represented here, was issued, collected and published.

The exhibition, created in close collaboration with the artist, for the first time brings together the work represented in collections in Munich. Exist primarily in the 1980s and 1990s, these 20 works are a comprehensive selection trenchant overview of the most important aspects in Jeff Wall’s work, partly with now famous, often exhibited works such as “The Thinker” or “Restoration”, but also by works who belong to the less known and rarely seen.
