National Gallery of Canada reappoints Marc Mayer as Director and CEO

Mr. Michael Tims, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada, welcomed the reappointment of Marc Mayer as the Director of the National Gallery of Canada for a second term of five years. Mr. Mayer’s reappointment was announced by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Marc Mayer earned a degree in art history at McGill University. His distinguished career as a curator and museum director has lead him to a number of prestigious institutions including the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, in Toronto, the Brooklyn Museum, in New York, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Expert in contemporary Canadian and international art, he took the helm of the National Gallery of Canada in 2009. Marc Mayer’s leadership style and intellect have earned him broad recognition wherever he has served.
