Even parking is a learning experience at Cincinnati Museum Center in 2014

Cincinnati Museum Center joins forces with Humana to help you Step It Up and be more active

CINCINNATI – Did you know it’s 500 adult or 600 child steps from the parking lot to the entrance of Cincinnati Museum Center and back? Did you also know that the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, Sports & Nutrition recommends you take 10,000 steps a day for a healthy lifestyle? Courtesy of new signage at the Museum Center, Humana can help you visualize a healthier you.

Humana encourages visitors to find ways to add more activity to their daily lives with their Step It Up program at Cincinnati Museum Center.

“The Step It Up program is a reminder that we can all find little, simple ways to get more activity – take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk instead of drive short distances and park a little further away when we do drive places,” explains John Sinclair, president ofHumana-Ohio. “Hopefully, thanks to Step It Up, we will all remember to ‘park at the museum’ and work more activity into the everyday things we do.”

Sinclair added that a few small changes in daily habits can add up to surprising health benefits. If everyone took the “park at the museum” philosophy with them each time they parked at work, the grocery store or mall, they could easily add thousands of steps to their day just by changing their parking habits.

Cincinnati Museum Center is committed to building and developing healthy minds by inspiring them to learn more and challenging them to be more creative. But we also recognize how important it is to build and develop a healthy body. That’s why we’ve partnered with Humana to encourage a more active physical, as well as mental, lifestyle.

“Often kids and families come to the museum to spend time together, learn something new and have an experience they’ll talk about for years,” says Douglass W. McDonald, President and CEO of Cincinnati Museum Center. “We want to get people off the couch, away from the TV and out and about while also encouraging and inspiring them to have an active mind.”
“Thanks to Humana’s support we can show people how simple getting more daily activity can be and also make more people aware that the Museum Center is a great place to fulfill that need for mental exercise while being active as a family,” says McDonald.

With signs in the parking lot and at the entrance to Union Terminal to remind you of the steps you’ve just taken, more visitors can see how easy it is to take a few extra steps to be more active.

“With three museums, a changing exhibits hall and OMNIMAX Theater, totaling over 140,000 square feet, you’ll be amazed at how many of those 10,000 steps you’ll cover in a trip to Cincinnati Museum Center,” says McDonald. “And how quickly you’ll want to come do it again.”
