IPHF February Speaker Series – Geoff Gerber: Intellectual Property for the Visual Artist

St. Louis – The International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum welcomes Geoff Gerber of Kahn Gerber, P.C. who will be presenting Intellectual Property for the Visual Artist on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 7:00 PM.

This introduction to intellectual property issues for visual artists explains copyright, trademark, and right of publicity concepts with concrete examples. Photographers and other visual artists will learn how to be sure they own what they create and how to avoid claim from models, businesses, and other artists.

Geoff Gerber is an intellectual-property lawyer with Kahn Gerber, P.C. who has represented visual artists against some of the biggest companies in the world and in disputes that have changed the law. He counsels clients on intellectual property ownership and use and regularly presents on intellectual property, including copyright, trademark, right of publicity, fair use and the First Amendment. He has substantial experience representing public and private clients in comic-book, publishing, games, toy trades and related industries and blogs on issues of particular interest to clients involved in branding, advertising, publishing, or entertainment. He has been quoted in the National Law Journal and Canadian Lawyers Weekly and presented to bar associations and industry groups on copyright and comic-book issues. Mr. Gerber received his A.B. degree from the University of Chicago and his J.D. from Washington University in 1997. He has also obtained a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University where he is an adjunct advisor and instructor. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Intellectual Property Section and Litigation Section) and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.
