Dallas Museum of Art Names Shyam Oberoi As Director of Technology and Digital Media

Robert Stein, Deputy Director of the Dallas Museum of Art, announced the appointment of Shyam Oberoi as the Director of Technology and Digital Media. Currently the General Manager of Collections Information Services at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Oberoi brings extensive experience in IT, software development, digital imaging and online collections. He will assume his new position on April 14, 2014.

Shyam OberoiIn his new role at the DMA, Oberoi will lead the Museum’s digital and technical initiatives as well as the staff in IT, software development, digital media, and the photography and imaging departments. He will manage a diverse range of projects, many of which will chart the future of digital media and technology for the Dallas Museum of Art as they seek to positively impact the field of museums. Oberoi will also chair the Museum’s web team and lead projects to digitize the Museum’s permanent collection, creating one of the most sophisticated online art collections in the world.

Oberoi joined the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2006 and for the past two years has served as the General Manager of Collections Information Services in the Digital Media Department. At the Met, he also worked on the 2011 re-launch of the museum’s website and the transformation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s online collection. Earlier, he managed a department responsible for the archiving of the museum’s image, audio and video content and the licensing and distribution of these materials. Prior to his appointment at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Oberoi served as the Information Technology Officer at Gabriel & Co., an international fashion designer and manufacturer in New York; a software engineer at Thor Technologies, Inc.; and a software developer with the New York City Bar Association.

Oberoi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from Manhattan College and a Master of Arts degree in English from New York University. He will work closely with and report to the DMA’s Deputy Director.
