Award-winning exhibition Diana, A Celebration concludes its world tour in Cincinnati on August 17
CINCINNATI – You only have a few days left to visit Diana, A Celebration before it returns to Princess Diana’s family in England. The final stop on the world tour closes at Cincinnati Museum Center on August 17.
Princess Diana touched the hearts of so many people around the world in her lifetime. Thanks to the award-winning exhibition Diana, A Celebration, she has touched the hearts of many more during the exhibition’s 11 year world tour. Cincinnati Museum Center invites you to give her a fond farewell and to be sure not to miss this incredible exhibition before it closes its doors one last time on August 17.
The exhibition presents the life and humanitarian work of Princess Diana through nine galleries containing 150 objects, including rare home movies and photos, paintings, family heirlooms, personal mementoes, 28 of her designer dresses and her magnificent royal wedding gown. The exhibition is on loan from the Althorp Estate, the Spencer family’s 500 year old ancestral home, where a portion of the items will be returned after the close of the exhibition. The rest of the items will be placed in the custody of Diana’s sons.
“Cincinnati is so incredibly fortunate to be the final stop of this amazing exhibition,” says Elizabeth Pierce, vice president at Cincinnati Museum Center. “We will be the last people in the world to see these fascinating and intimate pieces of Diana’s life. What better place to honor the People’s Princess and close the exhibition’s 11 year world tour than the Queen City?”
The exhibition shares the charm and heart of Diana, letting visitors fall in love with her all over again. Through movies, photographs and objects, witness the transformation of a shy young girl aspiring to be a ballerina to a young princess radiant in her wedding gown complete with a 25 foot train and then again from an adoring young mother to a fashion icon and humanitarian touching the lives of those ravaged by AIDS, leprosy and landmines.
You’ll also be inspired by the women philanthropists who have shaped Cincinnati’s history in Daughters of the Queen City, a companion gallery to Diana, A Celebration. See five wedding dresses spanning nearly a century from 1853 to 1947 worn by Josephine Lytle Foster, Olivia Procter Benedict, Helen Pogue Fisk, Louise Dieterle Nippert and Carol Ann Haile, women whose philanthropic contributions helped define Cincinnati’s cultural institutions and were progressive in their organized support of those in need. Learn about the history of the YWCA, the story of how women came together to save the Cincinnati Zoo on two occasions and the multi-racial, multi-denominational volunteers who served one-fifth of all American GIs during World War II through Cincinnati’s USO.
