SEATTLE – The new 3D movie “SpaceNext” will have its West Coast premiere at the Museum Saturday June 18. The film’s director, Luke Ployhar, will introduce two of the screenings, and after each presentation will lead a discussion about how the movie was made. Ployhar is a Hollywood veteran who was a special effects artist on many major Hollywood releases including “Planet of the Apes” and “Minority Report.”

“SpaceNext” uses 3D special effects and computer graphics to recreate inspiring milestones in aviation and spaceflight, and paint a picture of the future based on real science and the latest innovations. The result is an exhilarating vision of private space developments and the exploration of new worlds. Screenings with the director will be at 1:15 and 2:45 p.m. Price at the door is Museum admission plus $3, with discounts for online purchases.

The premiere of the film at the Museum has been timed to coincide with the 2016 NewSpace conference in Seattle that week. The three-day international conference focuses on the current, near term, and future issues and challenges of commercial space and is attended by major space industry insiders. The Museum of Flight is a cosponsor of the conference this year. Museum President and CEO Doug King says “SpaceNext is a perfect fit for attendees and fans of the NewSpace conference, and especially for the young people inspired by the subject matter in both. The film, which offers free online education guides for students, also fits the Museum’s commitment to be the foremost educational air and space museum in the world.”
