Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) offers free educator workshops this summer

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md., is hosting three free workshops for educators this summer.

Educators have two opportunities to attend the National Geographic Educator Certification Phase 1 Workshop, on either Wednesday, June 21, or Tuesday, July 18, taking place on both dates from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Open to all PK-12 formal, informal, and homeschool educators, the workshop will introduce the new National Geographic Learning Framework, which covers the skills and knowledge to teach students about the world, empowering them to succeed and make it a better place.

Participating educators will learn about National Geographic’s new Educator Certification Program and begin the process to become one of the nation’s first Nat Geo Certified Educators.

On Tuesday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., CBMM will host a Chesapeake’s Best Crab Cakes Educator Workshop. Participating educators will follow the blue crab from the Bay to the table in this hands-on workshop, which emphasizes Chesapeake geography, biology, and economics.

The workshop is designed to complement CBMM’s Chesapeake’s Best Crab Cakes Immersive tour, with educators exploring the relationship between people and the blue crab, and leaving with resources to implement the accompanying 5E Model Lesson in the classroom. This workshop is best for PK-5 educators.

Space is limited in all workshops, with advanced registration needed at bit.ly/educator17
