National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Open on Labor Day

Cincinnati, OH (August 30, 2017) – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center announced today that it will be open Monday, September 4, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for Labor Day. The extended hours on Labor Day close out the Summer Seasonal Hours campaign that began on Memorial Day weekend. After the Labor Day weekend the museum will be closed on Sundays for the fall and winter months with operating hours 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday.

The extended holiday hours will provide guests with additional opportunities to tour exhibits such as King Records: The King of Them All, The Rosa Parks Experience, and the Open Your Mind: Understanding Implicit Bias Learning Lab. King Records: The King of Them All is a traveling exhibit celebrating the 74 – year anniversary of Cincinnati’s iconic King Records throughout the month of September. The exhibit, consisting of 10 professionally designed banner stands, examines the early years of future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artists such as James Brown, Hank Ballard, Little Willie John and others. The exhibit is sponsored by Community Building Institute and the ArtsWave. The Rosa Parks Experience, sponsored by Procter & Gamble, is an immersive virtual reality experience that commemorates Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks’ historic demonstration, just four days before the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955. The Open Your Mind: Understanding Implicit Bias Learning Lab is designed to assist the public in understanding and recognizing bias and other forms of discrimination, as well as to explore recent debates in the realm of implicit bias research. The learning lab is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Foundation and Procter & Gamble.

“Our extended hours for Labor Day allow guests the flexibility to connect and engage with the history of the Underground Railroad,” says Dan Hurley, Interim Executive Director of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “Whether it’s after a church service or community fellowship, or guests looking for ways to entertain visitors from out of town- our doors are open for everyone to experience the museum and be inspired by stories of courage, cooperation and perseverance over this weekend.”
