John & Francie Pepper Freedom Lecture Series with Ronald C. White Today at National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

CINCINNATI, OH (October 4, 2017) – The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center invites the media to attend the John & Francie Pepper Freedom Lecture Series with Ronald C. White today, October 4.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota Ronald C. White is an award-winning author, historian and lecturer based in La Canada, California. White will discuss The New York Times bestseller, American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant. In American Ulysses White details how Grant was not only a brilliant general but also a passionate defender of equal rights in post-Civil War America. After winning the election in 1868, Grant used the power of the federal government to battle the Ku Klux Klan. He was also the first president to state that the government’s policy toward American Indians was immoral, and the first ex-president to embark on a world tour, and he cemented his reputation for courage by racing against death to complete his Personal Memoirs. White shows Grant to be a generous, curious, introspective man and leader—a willing delegator with a natural gift for managing the rampaging egos of his fellow officers. The lecture is free and open to the public. The John & Francie Pepper Freedom Lecture Series connects the public with award-winning authors, historians and thought-leaders, discussing themes on history, race, culture and modern abolition. Cincy Magazine is the print media sponsor for the 2017-2018 series.
