The 12th Annual African American Quiz Bowl gives youth from schools, churches and community groups the opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions African Americans have made in America. The members of Delta Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. seeks to evolve the educational experience through the quiz bowl by promoting the achievements and contributions of African Americans. Led by Steven Clark Sr., this annual competition has been a significant experience for a number of youth in the Greater Cincinnati region.

“We are thrilled to have students return to take part in what is becoming a tradition of how they celebrate Black History Month in the region,” says Christopher Miller, Manager of Program Initiatives at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. “By encouraging our youth to take part in the Quiz Bowl we challenge their thinking by correcting any misconceptions while enhancing the scope of American history.”

Gallery Talk: Celebrating African American Inventors will feature a conversation by Christopher Miller about the triumphs and contributions made by inventors such as George Washington Carver, Garrett Morgan and others. In conjunction with the 2018 Black History Theme, “African Americans in Times of War”, Gallery Talk: Buffalo Soldiers featuring Gregory A. Jones, M.Ed. will have a discussion about the first inclusion of black men in the regular army between the times of the Civil War through World War I.
