The schooner Sultana will be at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Md. beginning on Sunday, May 13, and continuing through Wednesday, May 23. Sultana returns to CBMM on Friday, June 29, and continues through Sunday, July 1. While docking at CBMM, Sultana will be hosting students in an under-sail environmental science program on the Miles River.
Through the Sultana Education Foundation, the schooner Sultana serves as an on-the-water classroom for learning about the history and environment of the Chesapeake Bay. An almost exact replica of a British schooner that patrolled the North American coast just prior to the American Revolution, Sultana provides day-long programs as well as live-aboard programs for participants.
During Sultana’s stay in St. Michaels, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s waterfront campus and 12 exhibition buildings are open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with drop-in Miles River cruises on the 1920 buyboat Winnie Estelle beginning May 18, and continuing Fridays through Mondays until October.
Guests to CBMM’s May 20 Community Day and June 30 Big Band Night will also be able to see Sultana dockside, with CBMM’s Community Day offering free boat rides on CBMM’s boats, and free admission for everyone. For more information, visit cbmm.org or call 410-745-2916.
