Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum to host Maryland Dove construction symposium

With construction underway on the new Maryland Dove in St. Michaels, Md., the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Historic St. Mary’s City have planned a Symposium on Building the New Maryland Dove. Scheduled for 10am–4pm Friday, Sept. 13, the event will be held in CBMM’s Van Lennep Auditorium.

During the symposium, staff from both CBMM and HSMC will explore the history of the original Ark and Dove, and the research, design, and construction plan for the new build. The day’s events will include a morning talk, afternoon panel discussion, and dockside tours of the current Maryland Dove. A representation of the vessel that accompanied the first European colonists to Maryland in 1634, Maryland Dove will be docked at CBMM from Friday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 15, and open for boarding to all CBMM guests.

The cost to attend the Symposium on Building the New Maryland Dove is $10 per person, with a 20% discount for CBMM members. Seating is limited, and registration is required to cbmm.org/dovesymposium

Construction on the new Maryland Dove, a representation of the vessel that accompanied the first European settlers to Maryland in 1634, is being done in full public view in the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum’s working Shipyard.
