SEATTLE,- The Museum honors veterans with special programming and free admission to veterans on Sunday Nov. 9. The Museum will also offer free admission to veterans on Veterans Day holiday, Nov. 11.

First Aid Arts Veterans Workshop designed for those working with veterans in the mental health space. Space is limited and pre-registration is encouraged.

Paying with Their Bodies: American War and the Problem of the Disabled Veteran, a book talk with author John Kinder.
Author John M. Kinder traces the complicated, intertwined histories of war and disability in modern America during a talk about his book, Paying with Their Bodies: American War and the Problem of the Disabled Veteran. Focusing on the decades surrounding World War I, Kinder argues that disabled veterans have long been at the center of two competing visions of American war: one that highlights the relative safety of U.S. military intervention overseas; the other indelibly associating American war with injury, mutilation, and suffering.
Kinder brings disabled veterans to the center of the American war story to show that its history over the last century can no longer be seen as a discrete experience that is easily left behind; rather, its human legacies are felt for decades.
John Kinder
Professor John Kinder is a historian of war and society at Oklahoma State University, where he studies the effects of war and violence on American society. His first book, Paying with Their Bodies: American War and the Problem of the Disabled Veteran, was published in 2015. Since then he has written or co-edited three books: Service Denied: Marginalized Veterans in Modern American History (2022); and World War Zoos: Humans and Other Animals in the Deadliest Conflict of the Modern Age (2025).
