On Sunday, October 4, the Baltimore Museum of Art opens Flashback: Two Centuries of Baltimore Photography, the first comprehensive exhibition of Baltimore’s innovations in the medium from the 1840s to the present. This sweeping exhibition encompasses 210 images by 90 named artists and historic studios, amplifying the voices and visions that capture the complexity, beauty, and lived experience of Baltimore. Even more diverse perspectives are featured in the Open Call, which includes 12 up-and-coming photographers who were selected to have their work projected in the exhibition and at BMA Lexington Market. Both Flashback and the Open Call will be on view through February 21, 2027.
Additionally, the BMA is hosting several events this fall to celebrate this landmark exhibition:
October 4 – Flashback Community Day
October 17 – (Un)Common Scholars Community Symposium
October 22 – Flashback Teachers Night
October 29 – Violet Hour with Lawrence Burney and Ellis Marsalis III (t.p. Luce)
November 5 – Flashback College Night
